BANGALORE: Tired of wearing dumpyuniforms? Want to experiment with clothes for college? With sleeveless tops, baggy jeans, T-shirts with slogans and other figure-hugging clothes offcampuses, students have very little to experiment with, or mix and match.
We debated the issue with students of Seshadripuram PU College, who felt it is better if students enforce discipline on their outfits rather than wait for the college to impose it on them.
Rashmi R, a PU I Arts student, said students themselves should be aware of the kind of dress one should wear to college, rather than having a dress code. “If students know, then there is no need for a dress code. An outfit should be something that is comfortable and for the campus,’’ she said.
However, Sharanabasavesh V M, doing I PU PCME, felt there should be some kind of relaxation. Narrating how a student in another college was not allowed in because he had an extra pocket on his pants, he said the college should not be too strict. “What is wrong in having an extra pocket on your jeans?’’ he said.
Sharanabasavesh is against fancy andflashy clothes. Instead, he feels that a student wearing simple jeans andT-shirts/formals can still be trendy.
His friend Prateek P S, I PUstudent of PCME, agrees. He too strongly feels that college should not allowstudents wearing cargos, jeans with too many pockets or those with side-pocketsand zips.
Even as the boys prefer to stick to good old trousers andshirts, girls feel that students should carry their clothes well. “Oneshould not wear anything that exposes. They should know theirlimits,’’ Lavanya V, a PU I CEBA student said.
UNIFORM ISBEST
While dress code is one thing, there are some like Roshini Jain, another I PU student, who feels that uniforms are the best solution. But all theothers opposed her idea, saying they had been wearing uniforms for 12 years andit was boring. “Uniforms for all is the best. There won’t be anydisparity between rich and poor,’’ Roshini said.
Rashmisummed up the issue, saying if there are any more restrictions, then studentswill try to rebel. “Hence, it’s important to make them understandwhy a dress code is introduced,’’ she added.
